Iconic Instagram Locations in New York City

One of the main things I was excited about when visiting New York City was shooting lots of photos for Instagram. It's a place I fell in love with through seeing other people's photos and I couldn't wait to get there and shoot my own content. New York City is arguably the most instagrammable place I have ever been - round every street corner there is something that you can take a photo of! I'm pretty sure my boyfriend was fed up with shooting photos of me by the end of our trip but that's what you get when you're an #instaboyfriend ...

DUMBO
Dumbo's Washington Street is where it's at for the money shot. The intersection of Water Street is the best place to stand to get the iconic shot of the Empire State Building in between the legs of Manhattan Bridge. This is a very popular photo location so go as early as possible to avoid the crowds.

BROOKLYN BRIDGE
I wasn't leaving New York without a photo of me on Brooklyn Bridge! I would recommend walking from Brooklyn to Manhattan across the bridge as this provides much better photo opportunities. There are a few points along Brooklyn Bridge where you can sit to get a photo of you with the Manhattan skyline in the background, however these get very busy during the day. If you're able to, you should head to Brooklyn Bridge for sunrise as it'll be much quieter and you can play around with the lighting as the sun is rising. We also headed to Brooklyn Bridge Lookout at nighttime to get some shots of the bridge and the city lit up.

CENTRAL PARK
You could spend all day taking photos in Central Park - the options are endless! Two of my favourite Instagrammable locations were Hernshead, which is a scenic point looking out across The Lake with the city in the background, and Bow Bridge.

THE HIGH LINE
The High Line is an elevated old railway track meaning that you can get lots of shots of Midtown Manhattan from a different viewpoint. There are places along the way where you can stop to get photos of yourself with the city in the background and there are art installations throughout The High Line too.

FLATIRON BUILDING
The architecture of the Flatiron Building is fascinating, however it can be difficult to shoot because its perspective changes depending on where you're standing. We took photos from where 24th Street intersects with Fifth Avenue. This was so much fun to shoot as my boyfriend was taking photos of me whilst I was walking across the pedestrian crossing - I felt like I was in some sort of fashion campaign!

THE MET STEPS
Anyone who's ever watched Gossip Girl knows the significance of The Met Steps. I knew that I had to get a photo in this iconic location and, unsurprisingly, there were loads of other people doing the same thing. Luckily, I didn't have to wait too long for a space to clear for me to get my shot but, if it is busy, then you can play around with some angles and still get great photos.

TOP OF THE ROCK
This provides the BEST view of New York City. If you go to the top of the Empire State Building, there will be one key thing missing from your photos: the Empire State Building. Therefore, it's best to go to the Top of the Rock, where you can see both Central Park and the Empire State Building. Also, there are 3 observation levels at the Top of the Rock so you could stand on the level below your photographer to create more of a 'bird's-eye view' over New York.

TIME OUT MARKET
Time Out Market opened whilst we were in New York so it's a relatively new Instagram location. It's located right by Brooklyn Bridge and there's a rooftop bar so you can get beautiful shots of the New York skyline. As you're walking up to the rooftop bar, there are archways cut out of the brickwork which look out to Manhattan Bridge - this provides a cool 'Manhattan via Brooklyn' perspective.

New York City has so many picture-perfect buildings and viewpoints, as well as Instagrammable cafes and restaurants, so you really are spoilt for choice when it comes to shooting content. Of course, the most popular locations get super busy so why not try wandering around and finding some new places to shoot? Hopefully I've provided you with some ideas of where to take photos in NYC. I would love to hear where your favourite spots are in the city. If you want to see what I got up to during my time in New York City, then check out my post here.
