Two Festival Makeup Looks

Festival season is in full swing and for me that means one thing: glitter. I love that it is completely acceptable to cover yourself in glitter at festivals. However, what I didn't realise until recently is how damaging glitter is to the environment - glitter is a microplastic and can build up in animals. Therefore, this year I have created a couple of festival looks using biodegradable glitter.

For both makeup looks, I used the same products as my base. I began by applying Benefit The POREfessional Primer on my face - I have oily skin so this really helps my foundation to last longer. Next I applied Bobbi Brown Skin Long-Wear Weightless Foundation and then I used Collection Lasting Perfection Concealer to cover up my blemishes. To set my base, I used Laura Mercier Translucent Loose Setting Powder (I really notice the difference with the staying power of my foundation if I don't use this!). To give myself a bit more colour, I applied Guerlain Terracotta Bronzing Powder in a '3' shape along my hairline, cheek bones and jawline - I also added a small amount either side of my nose. On the tops of my cheek bones, I used The Balm Mary Lou Manizer, as well as on my brow bones, down my nose and on my cupid's bow. This highlighter is very sparkly so it's perfect for festivals. I then applied Benefit Gimme Brow to make my eyebrows more defined and used Urban Decay Eyeshadow Primer Potion on my eyelids. Up until this point both makeup looks were the same so I'll now explain how I did the eyes for each.

I used Urban Decay Naked Palette for the first festival look. I applied 'Virgin' to the inner corners of my eyes and blended this into 'Half Baked' for the remaining parts of my eyes. I then used In Your Dreams Biodegradable Glitter for the outer parts of my eyes and blended this into the eyeshadow. I wanted to create a more subtle glitter look so it was almost as if I was wearing a really sparkly eyeshadow than actual glitter. Once I'd got the glitter to stay in the right place (I used a lip balm to stick it down), I finished my eyes with Too Faced Better Than Sex Mascara. Lastly, I applied Clinique Pop Splash Lip Gloss + Hydration in the shade 'Latte Pop' to give a glossy look.

For the second festival look, I went for darker eye makeup to match the colours of the glitter. I used Urban Decay Naked Smoky Palette. I began by applying 'High' to the inner corners of my eyes and blending this into 'Armor' for the main part of my eyes. I then applied a small amount of 'Smolder' to the outer corners of my eyes to add some depth. I decided to apply the glitter underneath my eyes this time and dragged it up towards my brow bones. I used EcoStardust Unicorn Dreams Biodegradable Glitter, which is a mixture of purple, pink, silver and turquoise. I again used Too Faced Better Than Sex Mascara to finish my eye makeup. Lastly, I applied MAC Soar Lip Pencil and MAC Twig Lipstick to complete the look.

Hopefully these two festival makeup looks have given you some inspiration for any upcoming festivals you're going to. You could also add glitter down your hairline or to your braids if you want to be extra sparkly! If you are planning on wearing glitter at a festival, then it's so important that you get biodegradable glitter and help to prevent further environmental damage. Have you got tickets to any festivals yet?
