A Day In The Life Of A Blogger

Although I'm not technically a full-time blogger, I have been using my time off between jobs to focus on growing my blog (and more recently YouTube channel). Therefore, I thought that it would be interesting to give an insight into what I've been getting up to on a day-to-day basis.

I usually start my day at this time. I am aware that this is a lot later than most people and when I start my graduate job it will be a bit of a shock getting up early again. However, whilst I don't have to wake up early, I would rather get up later and go to bed later. As soon as I get out of bed I eat breakfast - I cannot function until I've eaten! I used to always check my social media accounts as soon as I woke up but this prolonged the length of time it would take me to actually start my day and seriously reduced my productivity, so now I don't check social media until I've accomplished a few tasks.

Before I start working on anything, I make a to-do list for me to tick off throughout the day. I will then respond to any comments I have received on my blog posts and have a quick look through Pinterest - I've found that pinning a few photos every morning has really improved my engagement rate on Pinterest.

I've recently gotten into a routine of doing a workout every morning. I know that this isn't something everyone can do and if I was blogging full-time as my career, then I would schedule my workout for before or after my 'work hours'. However, because I'm a bit more relaxed about blogging all day, I like to fit my workout in before I start the main bulk of my blog tasks. Throughout the summer, I've been following the Kayla Itsines Bikini Body Guide, which I love because it's a very intense workout for only 30 minutes.

Once I've showered I am ready to tackle my to-do list. I usually spend the morning reading and commenting on blog posts on Bloglovin' and finding new bloggers to follow. I have also created 'Collections' on Bloglovin' where I save my favourite posts into their appropriate collection so I can find them easily in the future. I spend a good portion of my morning checking my social media accounts and responding to any comments or messages, as well as responding to emails. Also, I have recently got into the habit of responding to Twitter threads with my blog or Instagram links, which I've found to be a great driver of traffic to my blog (@theclique_uk post daily threads).

Lunch time. I like to have lunch with my Mum whilst she's home for her lunch break. I try to not look at my phone or laptop during my lunch break as I want to give my eyes a break from looking at a screen all morning! If I need to go into town to grab anything, then I'll do it once I've finished my lunch (this also makes sure I get out the house and get some fresh air!).

If I need to shoot photos, then I try to get them done early afternoon, whilst the lighting is still good. Sometimes I have to rope my brothers in to help me if I'm shooting fashion content, so I need to be flexible with what time suits them but generally I try to stick to early afternoon. Of course, as winter approaches there will be less daylight hours to shoot content, so I'm considering getting some studio lights to help with that - if you have any recommendations, please send them my way.

I've recently started uploading weekly to my YouTube channel so, if it's a filming day, I will film in the afternoon. I try to film a couple of videos at a time as it's quite time consuming to set up all of the equipment for only one video. If it's not a filming day, then I will use this time to write a blog post or work on parts of my blog such as updating the Shop My Wardrobe page.

By this time in the day, I will have usually completed most of what I wanted to do, so I will use this time to do odd jobs like; contact companies about potential collaborations, plan future content or look at the engagement rates my blog posts and Instagram posts are receiving. Occasionally, I will stick Netflix on in the background (ok, this happens most days...).

The last thing I do is post my Instagram for the day and spend some time engaging with people on there. I know a lot of people post in the morning, however I've played around with timings and found that my Instagram posts do better in the evening. Therefore, this is the last thing that I like to do before relaxing for the evening.

I know that my typical day is nowhere near as chaotic as a full-time blogger, who will have tonnes of sponsored content to shoot and events to attend. However, this routine has worked really well for me whilst I'm trying to grow my blog and it's something that anyone doing a gap year or who has some time off would also be able to follow. Did you enjoy this type of post? Maybe once I've started my new job, I will write a Day In The Life post on that.
